The Joys (hahaha) of Potty Training

We are officially in the throes of potty training! At Mrs. Amber's house, Izzy really does a great job!! She'll have an accident here or there, but she totally gets that when you sit on the pot your supposed to tinkle or poop. She's done both willingly over the last couple of weeks. She's not telling us she has to go, but we're putting her on the commode every 20-30 minutes. There have been several days where I pick her up and she's wearing the same clothes I dropped her off in. I called to check on her on the first day of potty training and Amber said she was doing great! She had only had one accident and when she did, she took off running to the restroom going, "go, go, go, go, go!!" Too funny and it let me know that she really is ready.

She's not so eager about using the potty at home. She'll do it, but she's less likely to do it at home than at Amber's house. One day last week Iz was playing in the kitchen while I was browning hamburger meat. We had just tried to go potty. All of a sudden she started yelling, "tee tee, tee tee." Sure enough, beneath her was a big puddle. I stripped her down and threw a towel over the puddle. Then I gave a quick stir to the hamburger meat and went to sit her on the toilet. In that short amount of time, she'd run and found a corner in her room and started to... yep, you guessed it... POOP!!!!! AAGGHH!!!!! I need to take some lessons from Mrs. Amber, the potty training queen!!! :)

Jenny, I love your blog. I know I rarely comment but just had to give you some encouragement today. I know first hand how hard it is to work (I'm a nurse) and have little ones and be pregnant.

I am sorry you are having such a tough time. It has NOTHING to do with Amber being better at it. It has more to do with MAKING you spend EVERY moment focused on Iz. She was used to having you all to herself ALL day and she is still adjusting. Now, don't take that as a quilt trip---she can do it and you should continue. Just be patient and DON'T beat yourself up. If you just act like no big deal, it will pass---she will find a new trigger. It might be helpful when it happens to have Trey be the one to tackle cleaning Iz while you clean the actual mess---that way her plan backfires--but be ready she will find something else to push YOUR button. Welcome to this personality (I had a child just like the "spit fire" in your house) You are awesome parents and one day Iz will be thankful to have had you both.

In HIS grip,
Becky
