7 months and Motorboat Messes

Today is the 19th. It's been 7 months since she left us. We did our usual thing and hit Cracker Barrel. Iz enjoyed her first Cracker Barrel grits and a bite or two of biscuit. I must say that she was quite approving of the new tastes. Sometimes I wonder if the 19th will ever pass without us noticing. That would be nice. I've got to admit that I don't see it happening anytime soon though.

Today was ok. This week was tough (for who knows what reason), but for me, today was ok. We went to church this morning. 3 of the songs we sang mentioned grief and/or sorrow... God carrying your sorrow or bearing your grief with you. They were songs I've sung dozens if not hundreds of times over the years, but today I heard them differently.

What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield you; you will find a solace there.

Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised Thou wilt all our burdens bear
May we ever, Lord, be bringing all to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright unclouded there will be no need for prayer
Rapture, praise and endless worship will be our sweet portion there.

I love it when something I've heard or sung my whole life takes on new meaning to me. Today I was thankful for the reminder that He is there to share the burden with us if we will only let him. I've got to admit to loving the last 2 lines too. "In glory bright unclouded..." Doesn't that just sound... well... Heavenly?

Today I was able to focus on Catie's sheer happiness. It's always a better day when I can fix my eyes on that. When my "Heaven Eyes" are on (you know, when you look at things in the right perspective), all is clearer. I need to find those Heaven Eyes in the Lasiks version so that they are permanent... so I can keep that vision, that perspective all the time.

Izzy is at the best age right now (but I know... it just keeps getting better and better). She is so much fun. Anywhere we go, she makes all sorts of new friends. What is it about a baby her age that is so irresistable? She's smiley, she laughs, she "gagagagagagas" and "mamamamamamas" and "dadadadadadas" all day long. Her favorite thing is motorboating when you're trying to feed her. Lesson learned... don't feed her in the clothes you want to walk out the door in!!! She's engaging and she's feisty (you should see her reaction when you take a toy from her that she doesn't want to give up). We're loving every single minute and learning a lot!!!

Thanks for checking in on us! We're so glad you did. We'll update again soon!

=)Jenny
P.S. Some folks have e-mailed me and asked if there is a guestbook on this page. It works a little differently here. You can leave a message by clicking on the comments link (in blue) just below the entry you're reading. It will take you to a page where you can read messages other folks have left and you can leave your own if you want.

Hi - I've been following Catie for a long time. I learned of you through Carter Martin's family. My son was in the same grade with him at school.

I appreciate how transparent you are in both your grief and your absolute love for both your daughters. You teach valuable lessons every day to all of us.

Love your entry today for a whole variety of reasons.
Hugs to all of you.
I never had the great pleasure of meeting Catie but I miss her anyway.
Hugs,
Leeann

Oh Jenny! That's one of my favorite songs! I can tell you that the great hymns are one of the things I miss since converting. As you said, you sing them forever, and then one day you get the sledgehammer upside the head and it speaks to you.

We continue to pray for you. Give that baby big ol' hugs and kisses! Don't be a stranger!
